News release - The City of Barrie
The City of Barrie’s Curbside Giveaway Day (formerly known as New to Me Day) is taking place this Saturday, June 10. This event is a chance for residents to give gently-used or unwanted items a second life. It’s like a garage sale but without the money exchange.
Apart from finding things for free, you also benefit by cleaning your home of unwanted items, while helping prolong the life of Barrie’s landfill. This helps support a circular economy, which is a movement toward greener, more sustainable options, by considering using items in new ways so they can be reused, and sharing things instead of throwing them out.
Participating in Curbside Giveaway Day is as easy as 1-2-3:
Gather up items around your home that are no longer used, but that other people might like to have (toys, books, furniture, sporting goods, small appliances, tools, art, etc.)
On the morning of Saturday, June 10, put your items at the curb and mark them as “free”
Look for free treasures around your neighbourhood!
You can also share the items you have available by posting on the City's Facebook event page for Curbside Giveaway Day, to show others what you're offering.
Curbside Giveaway Day runs from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 10. Anything that does not find a new home must be taken back in by 9 p.m. as there will be no special municipal collection. If residents need to get rid of items, they can visit barrie.ca/AlternativeOptions or barrie.ca/landfill for more information on how to properly do so.
Curbside Giveaway Day happens twice per year in Barrie—in the spring and in the fall. The next event takes place on September 23.
