Dog shot dead by OPP during altercation in Orillia

An officer attacked by the dog suffered serious injuries
Wasaga Beach resident robbed by man claiming to be a police officer

The Special Investigations Unit is probing an incident in Orillia in which there was an altercation during an attempt to arrest several people and a dog was shot dead by police.

OPP say around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle with multiple occupants and a dog parked on Grace Avenue. Police determined two of the occupants had outstanding warrants. As officers attempted to arrest them, there was an altercation and an officer was attacked by the dog, receiving serious injuries. To stop the dog, the officer fired his gun and killed it. One occupant of the vehicle also sustained injuries during the incident.

A 35-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Orillia, face several assault-related and other charges. A 34-year-old Barrie woman faces four assault-related counts and other offences.
