Two dogs were killed in a trailer home fire on New Year's Day in Angus, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Around 9 a.m., police and fire were alerted about the blaze at 62 Brentwood Road.

When crews arrived, the trailer home was engulfed in flames. Police say the homeowner was away at the time, but both of his dogs were located deceased.

The fire was determined to be a space heater and is not considered to be suspicious, OPP stated.

Police added that the trailer was a loss and the homeowner will be temporarily staying with family.
