Drive-thru behaviour leads to arrest by Barrie police

Teen refused to provide breath sample, say police

The loud revving of a car engine followed by an abrupt U-turn at Farview Road and Little Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday caught the attention of a Barrie police officer.

The officer followed the vehicle to a drive-thru lane of a nearby fast-food restaurant.

Police say the driver loudly placed his order, but his speech was slurred. They added that the motorist was unsteady and fumbling in his demeanour and there was the odour of alcohol, and all that combined resulted in his arrest for impaired driving.

He was taken up the road to the police station to meet with a certified breath technician, but police say the driver refused to participate.

The 18-year-old from Barrie was charged with failing to provide a breath sample and fail or refuse to comply with a demand.

He has a court date on Apr. 6.
