Two men in their 20s face a bunch of charges following a reported road rage incident that began in the northbound lanes of Highway 400 south of Bayfield Street involving a car and a pickup truck.
Around 9:16 a.m. on Sunday, police were alerted about what they were told was a car that made an abrupt maneuver which caused the pickup driver to brake quickly in order to avoid a collision.
"As both of the involved motor vehicles exited the highway at Bayfield Street, a second incident occurred on the off-ramp, where the driver of the car reversed and almost struck the driver of the pickup," Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon said in a news release on Monday.
Police said both vehicles entered into a parking lot on the southwest corner of Bayfield and Grove Streets.
"The driver of the pickup was forcibly removed from his truck and assaulted, and an attempt was made to steal the truck. The unsuccessful attempt was thwarted, and the car sped away westbound on Grove Street, only to be observed and stopped by police on Toronto Street," the news released stated.
As police were dealing with the driver from Barrie and the passenger from Toronto, both fled from the vehicle forcing officers to give chase, and the males were quickly nabbed.
Police said they seized "significant quantities" of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, and during the arrest of the passenger, a loaded gun was also seized.
Both men have been charged with mischief, uttering threats, assault, attempt robbery and drug-related offences.
The driver is also facing charges of dangerous operation and resisting a peace officer.
The passenger's rap sheet also includes "a slew of firearms and weapons-related charges."
Both men were both held for a bail hearing that occurred late Sunday and have since been remanded into custody.
