Barrie police say a motorist they charged with impaired driving was trying out their new snow tires.
Police credit a citizen who reported a vehicle being "oddly" operated around 10 p.m. Thursday in a neighbourhood south of Little Avenue. Thanks to detailed information from that individual, police say they located the vehicle as it entered a driveway and was parked by a 45-year-old man.
"The driver exhibited obvious signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for impaired driving," police said in a news release. "
The man was transported to police headquarters where a breathalyzer operator continued the investigation and was able to confirm the man was well over twice the legal limit, police added.
He was charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and operation while impaired (blood alcohol concentration over .80 milligrams). The man has a court date later this month.
Police said the vehicle the man was operating has been impounded for seven days and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days.
"This incident is an excellent example of the positive results that can occur when the community and police work together, and police credit this community-minded citizen with making the right call," police noted.
