The City of Barrie’s Dunlop Street Interchange Trunk Sanitary Relocation project is in the final stages of completion, with final restoration work being done from now until the end of May.
The new curbs and sidewalks are complete and grading of the boulevards is taking place to prepare for sod placement.
The following final work is scheduled to be completed in the next two weeks, weather permitting:
- This week, work will be done in the Cedar Pointe plaza areas and parking lots. Sod restoration will also be done within the boulevard areas.
- During the week of May 27, the top layer of asphalt will be removed and repaved on Cedar Pointe Drive and at the Cedar Pointe Drive/Edgehill Drive intersection. Driveways to businesses along Cedar Pointe will be temporarily closed as the paving is done. Then, the road lines will be painted. This work will involve lane closures/shifts.
- The asphalt work on the 131 Edgehill Drive parking area will happen from May 27 to May 31.

Last year, the main project work was completed five months ahead of schedule. By allowing the contractor to work 24-hour shifts in fall 2023, the City was able to complete over $11M worth of work in less than six months.
In 2025, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will begin their bridge replacement project, which will include the replacement of the Dunlop Street bridge and reconfiguration of the Dunlop Street/Highway 400 interchange. The MTO’s project will take approximately four years to complete.
