Election Day in Canada; be sure to cast your vote

Polls in Ontario are open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

It is Election Day in Canada.

Polling stations in Ontario open at 9:30 this morning and close at 9:30 tonight, but it may be several days before we have a final outcome.

Votes cast today and in the advance polls will be counted when voting ends tonight. Counting of mail-in ballots — six million across the country, eight thousand in Barrie’s two ridings — will not begin until Tuesday, after Elections Canada has verified no one voted twice.

Workers are entitled to three consecutive hours in which to vote. Depending on your works hours, employers may have to take one of these three measures:

  • Let you arrive late
  • Let you leave early
  • Allow you three consecutive hours off at any point during your work day.

Remember to take your voter information card with you to your polling station (listed on the back of the card) and a piece of identification. Click here if you’re unsure of where to vote.

Also, remember to wear a mask.

We will have election updates for you tonight Facebook (Barrie360) and Twitter (@Barrie360), as well as on Rock 95 and 107.5 Kool FM starting at 9:30, keeping watch on trends across the country and the numbers for local candidates.
