Environment Canada says testing error caused erroneous tornado warnings to be issued Tuesday morning

Warnings were issued in error for areas in Simcoe County and throughout the GTA

Did you spend your morning watching the sky after receiving a tornado warning around breakfast time Tuesday morning? Environment Canada says sorry about that.

Tornado warnings were issued for a number of southern Ontario locations just before 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, including Innisfil, New Tecumseth, Orillia, and into the GTA. A notice went out less than ten minutes later, cancelling the warnings.

Environment Canada said early Tuesday afternoon the warnings were sent out as a result of a testing error. The national weather service vowed to take steps to prevent this kind of error in the future.
