The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie is calling on the community to step up, lace up, and stand up against gender-based violence at the 2026 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event. The event is happening on Saturday, September 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Southshore Community Centre.
Big strides, bigger impact! We’re bringing the whole community together, and we want you there! Grab your family, rally your sports teams, or challenge your coworkers to join us for a high-energy day dedicated to ending violence against women and children. It’s more than just an event—it's a celebration of community spirit, strength, and hope. Team up, show up, and let’s make some noise for a great cause! This powerful, family-friendly event invites everyone from our community; men, women, youth, workplaces, schools, sports teams, and community groups to come together and take strides to end violence against women and children in our community
“Walk a Mile is about raising awareness, but it’s also about raising hope,” says Teresa MacLennan Executive Director of the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie. “When our community comes together, shoulder to shoulder, it sends a powerful message to survivors that they are not alone—and that together, we’re working to create a safer future for everyone.”
