Sixty -four percent of respondents said that was their most common nightmare.

According to the New York Post, Via Healthline, experts suggest the feeling of falling is a response to the body relaxing and falling asleep, which is often followed by the person suddenly jerking awake.

Healthline also lists insecurity, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed and out of control as reasons for the jerking response.

The other most common nightmares include being chased, which wakes up 63 percent of those surveyed, followed by death.

Other nightmares include teeth falling out, a spouse leaving you, and feeling trapped.

Hair loss was on the list, but not the biggest concern, with only 4 percent of people saying this nightmare gives them chills.
