Happy Festivus! Grab a pole, air your grievances, and get ready to rumble

Before getting together with family and friends for Christmas merriment, it's time to air your grievances.

Today is Festivus, a chance to tell everyone what you think about them.

The unofficial holiday came into our lives with a classic Seinfeld episode where George's dad, Frank Costanza, creates the unkind holiday.

Even though the Seinfeld episode brought the holiday to most of us, it was actually around for several years before the episode aired.

Show writer Dan O'Keefe's father created it around 1976.

The original holiday included feats of strength and, most importantly, the airing of grievances.

If you want to participate, here are some easy steps.

1: Get a pole. You'll use this instead of a Christmas tree or menorah and place it in the centre of your home. Do not decorate it!

2: Eat a meatloaf dinner

3: Air your grievances. Get all those petty issues off your chest. You'll feel a lot better. Beware, though; others at the table will probably have problems with you too.

4: Feats of strength. It can be anything to show your strength, from leg and arm wrestling to a push-up contest. Anything to get competitive.

Hopefully, this helps you feel better so you can continue on with Christmas festivities over the next few days.

Watch the video below for the holiday's complete explanation.
