Few Got Behind the Wheel Stoned in Barrie on Legalization Day

One Impaired Driving Charge Is Too Many

It looks like most Barrieites behaved themselves on the first day of legalized marijuana.

The Barrie Police Service says, over the course of the entire first day of legalization, only one person was charged with being impaired by cannabis while behind the wheel. Barrie Police Constable Sarah Bamford was quick to point out that was just within city limits, and that one charge is too many.

Meanwhile, the Barrie Police Service will join South Simcoe Police, Rama Police and the OPP in a “joint” RIDE program focusing on cannabis impairment until Sunday. That group effort has thus far seen nine charges laid, including Driving under Suspension and Impaired by Alcohol.
