Fire in electrical room at Barrie apartment building, tenants evacuated

Tenants of a five-storey apartment building at 96 Ross Street, at Wellington Street in Barrie, remain out of their homes this morning after an overnight fire in an electrical room on Friday.

A fire department spokesman tells Barrie 360 it took about 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Tenants are being assisted by the County of Simcoe and the Canadian Red Cross until they can return to their building, according to the fire official.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there is no damage total.
