The Barrie Fire Department says tenants could be displaced for quite some time after an overnight fire on Friday in an electrical room at a five-storey apartment building at 96 Ross Street, near Wellington Street.

A fire official told Barrie 360 that the electrical room where the fire occurred is on the fifth floor.

The fire was sparked by water leaking onto a unit.

The blaze was quickly extinguished, but there is extensive water damage.

The official says tenants have had to find alternate living arrangements and are being assisted by the County of Simcoe and the Canadian Red Cross.
