Thefts from vehicles are usually crimes of opportunity. Visible items tempt would-be thieves and make you prone to be a victim. South Simcoe Police advise residents to remove all items from vehicles that will act as an invitation to thieves. If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in your vehicle, they should be locked in the trunk out of plain sight.
The owner of the firearm has not been charged with any weapons-related offenses after the item was left in the car overnight.
