Five Displaced By Fire In Barrie

$100,000 In Damage

The Red Cross and Barrie Police scrambled Sunday night to find accomodations for five people and a dog after fire in a house on Mary Street.

Fire crews got the call just before 8’clock. They say it was a stubborn attic fire that got its start on a covered deck. The fire appears to have spread to the interior walls, then the ceiling to the attic.

No one was hurt. None of the tenants had renters insurance. While the cause of the fire is under investigation, officials say there is strong evidence the fire got its start through improperly disposed cigarette butts.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.
