Two people are being sought by the OPP after a theft and attempted fraud in Collingwood.
Police say a person was conducting a purchase using a card at a store when one of the suspects distracted the cashier while the second suspect was looking over the victims shoulder to obtain the personal identification number for the card being used. Police say this is commonly referred to as 'shoulder surfing.'
Once the person returned to her car with her items, police say one of the suspects distracted the woman while the second suspect was able to enter into the vehicle and steal a debit card and credit card from her purse. The pair went to an ATM where police said they tried twice to obtain $1,000 but got nothing.
The woman realized soon after that her cards were missing and cancelled both cards before any withdrawals were made.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information that may help identify the suspects (see attached photos) is asked call Collingwood OPP at 1-705-445-4321 or if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
