Ontario Provincial Police say there are no signs of foul play after a 39-year-old Midland homeowner died in a fire on Sunday morning.

Emergency crews arrived to the Barnett Avenue residence around 6:30 and found a working fire in the attached garage area, according to Fire Chief Richard Renaud.

"During firefighting activities, crews located a male occupant in the garage area. The patient was transported by Simcoe County paramedics to Georgian Bay General Hospital with no vital signs. The patient has subsequently been pronounced deceased. There were no other occupants at the home," Renaud added in an email to Barrie 360.

There was minor smoke and fire damage in the home.

An investigation into the cause of the fire and death is being conducted by the Ontario Fire Marshal and the coroner's office.
