Two OPP helicopters and other first responders were pressed into service on Sunday to rescue 23 people who became stranded on ice on Georgian Bay.

According to GreyBruce OPP, the wind and current moved the ice about two kilometres from shore.

The rescue happened near Balmy Beach, north of Owen Sound.

Police said Cobble Beach Golf Course was opened for responders to bring people to safety.

Minor injuries, including hypothermia, were reported, according to OPP, but everyone was expected to recover.
