Georgian College offering microcourses for recently or soon-to-be laid-off workers to beef up their credentials

New courses prepare workers to enter auto or advanced manufacturing sector

Georgian College is introducing a new program designed to aid those affected by a recent or upcoming layoff.

In partnership with the Ontario Government, the local college is introducing RapidSkills microcredentials. The program offers short-term, competency-based, industry-recognized certifications in hydraulics and pneumatics, industrial automation, precision machining, and robotics. These certifications are expected to prepare workers for a career in the auto or advanced manufacturing sectors.

To be eligible, participants must have been recently laid off or at high risk of being laid off. Eligible participants can apply to RapidSkills staff or be referred by employers or Employment Ontario.

RapidSkills will begin in September and run until March 2021 with a blend of part-time, online, and in-person lessons.

More information on how to apply can be found on the Georgian College website.
