Georgian College is holding a vaccination clinic on Aug. 24 at the Barrie Campus, providing an opportunity for students, employees and the local community to get their first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The clinic is co-ordinated by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) in partnership with Georgian’s Health, Wellness and Sciences department. It followed Georgian and the Ontario government’s announcements about new policies requiring vaccinations for in-person, on-campus activity. Practical Nursing students will be helping with immunizations and Paramedic students will assist with the clinic by monitoring after care.

“We are very pleased to partner with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to offer this clinic at our Barrie Campus,” said Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes, President and CEO of Georgian College. “We know widespread vaccination is our best strategy to a safe and more rapid return to on-campus life and providing this convenient opportunity for our students and employees to get vaccinated is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure we’re doing everything we can to make returning to campus a safe reality.”

In order to work or study on any Georgian campus or affiliated facility, students and employees will be required to have at minimum their first dose of a two-dose, Health Canada or World Health Organization (WHO) approved vaccine before coming on campus as of Sept. 7 and a second dose, or be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18.

“I applaud the efforts being made by Georgian College to protect people on their premises through vaccination against COVID-19,” said Dr. Charles Gardner, Medical Officer of Health for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. “By making vaccination more accessible with this clinic they are also helping to protect the broader community.”

The vaccination clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gym located in the Student Life Centre (J building). There will be a temporary entrance set up at the covered walkway leading into J building, with signs directing you where to go.

What clinic attendees need to know:

  • You can obtain either your first or second dose
  • If it’s your second dose, your first dose must have been received on or before July 26 and you must provide proof
  • You must bring your health card
  • Everyone is required to complete Georgian’s COVID-19 screening assessment on the SAFE@Georgian app, or by answering screening questions at the door and to adhere to our health and safety protocols while on campus.

The college is continuing to work with local public health units to host additional vaccination clinics on campus to assist Georgian students and employees to get vaccinated.
