GO Transit service to be reduced by 15 per cent starting Monday

The transit company says cancellations will be spread-out strategically

Be ready for more reductions on Monday, Jan. 10, this time with GO Transit.

Metrolinx, the company that runs GO, says due to the rapidly spreading Omicron COVID variant, their train and bus services will be cut by 15 per cent.

“Given the rapid transmission of this variant, the absenteeism level at Metrolinx is expected to increase over the next few weeks, so proactive mitigation measures are necessary to protect critical transit services,” the agency said in a post on Thursday, noting public health officials expect this latest wave of the pandemic to last through the next “few weeks or months.”

The transit company says it will strategically spread-out cancellations, and do its best to maintain GO bus routes.

“Cancelled trains will not always be able to be replaced by buses as every part of the business is affected by high absenteeism,” the agency released.

Metrolinx asks customers to stay updated with train and bus schedules – which you can find here: gotransit.com/fullschedules.
