Health Unit encouraging parents to update their students’ immunization records online
suspension notices sent out to about 2,000 students
Some two thousand students need to get their immunization info up to date, lest they face school suspension.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) sent out more than 2,000 suspension orders to the homes of students in Grades 2 and 8, a reminder that immunization records must be updated before the end of the month.
Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, up-to-date records are required for all Ontario students, while the responsibility falls on the parent or guardian to report it to the health unit. Parents can easily update their child’s records online or by calling the Health Connection Line at (705)721-7520.
The SMDHU offers supports for parents who may have questions related to the updating of student immunization records, and offers clinics for those who need to catch up.
