3 people taken into custody, heavy police presence in area of last week's shooting in Alliston

OPP upgrade charges after driver dies of injuries in Highway 12 crash near Gambridge

There is an increased police presence in the area of Kidd Crescent in Alliston, the same neighbourhood were a 21-year-old man was shot and wounded last Thursday afternoon.

Around 3: a.m. on Tuesday, Nottawasaga OPP say they attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver did not pull over. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle which they were able to locate a short time later. As a result, three people were taken into custody, and according to police, the vehicle had been stolen.

"Investigators do not consider this to be a random incident," OPP stated in a news release on Tuesday. "Local residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the area."

In the shooting investigation, police confirmed they were looking for three people who were wearing dark clothes and masks and fled in a white Toyota Camry.

At the time, police said they believed the shooting was an isolated incident.

As it is an ongoing investigation, OPP told Barrie 360 they were not able to confirm if the two investigations are connected.
