This year's Academy Awards were odd, to say the least. The decision to award the Best Picture category before Best Actress and Best Actor is still puzzling even the most die-hard of Oscar fans. Many (rightly) assumed that the reasoning behind this decision was to end the night with the third-ever posthumous Actor award going to Chadwick Boseman. But when the final envelope was opened and the drum roll stopped, it was...Anthony Hopkins.
However, there is some good news to come out of this. The Academy Awards has been criticized in recent years due to a lack of diversity, but it's hard for anyone to say this year was anything but diverse. The big winner this year was Chloe Zhao's Nomadland which took home Best Director, the coveted Best Picture award (even if it was award strangely, third to last), and Francis McDormand taking home Best Actress.
