Southern Georgian Bay OPP had a presence near Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland on Thursday after a report of a suspicious individual possibly carrying a weapon nearby.

Officers responded to the report at 11:45 a.m., and eventually, the school was placed in a "Hold and Secure" protocol as a precautionary measure.

"This safety procedure restricts movement in and out of the building while allowing staff and students to continue regular activities inside," Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release. "It is designed to ensure the safety of everyone while police conduct their investigation."

Police presence eventually increased after more officers were deployed in the area of Cook Drive and Yonge Street. They quickly located and identified the individual in question on whom no weapon was found. It was also determined that no threats had been made.

The hold and secure was lifted just before 12:05 p.m.
