Human remains found during search for missing person in Wahta Mohawk First Nation

Missing person was reported to be from Washago

Human remains have been located by provincial police during a search for a missing person in Wahta Mohawk First Nation.

Bracebridge OPP say a 49-year-old Washago woman was reported missing around 11 a.m. on Monday after she failed to return from a walk in a wooded area in Wahta Mohawk First Nation. Police began a search on foot and using their aviation unit.

Shortly before 10:30 Wednesday morning, human remains were discovered in the search area. The death is not considered to be suspicious and there are no concerns for public safety.

Police say the name of the person is being withheld pending positive identification and next of kin notification.

The search has been suspended until the identity can be confirmed.
