Huronia Road closed May 16 to 30 as part of Big Bay Point Road construction

Improvements include road widening from two to five lanes

News release from the City of Barrie

Huronia Road will be closed from Big Bay Point Road to Ellis Drive from May 16 to 30. The closure is part of the Big Bay Point Road Transportation Improvements project which started last August.

Drivers can expect delays in the area and detours will be in place around the closure. Access to all businesses will remain open.

Barrie Transit Route 3 is on detour between May 16 and May 30. Stops 752, 9, 116, 113, 118, 879, and 878 will be temporarily closed. Visit www.barrie.ca/TransitNotices for more information.

Big Bay Point Road is being widened to five lanes to alleviate congestion in Barrie's south-end and accommodate growth. The project features include:

  • road widening from 2 to 5 lanes, including continuous two-way left-turn median
  • 1.5m Bicycle lanes with 0.5m buffer on both sides of the road
  • construction of new curbs, sidewalk and improved drainage systems
  • watermain replacement
  • intersection and illumination improvements

The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year. For more details on the project, visit the Big Bay Point Road Transportation Improvements page via www.barrie.ca/Roadwork.
