Impaired driver slams into police cruiser, forces highway closure

A police cruiser of an officer responding to a previous collision on Highway 11 northbound was hit by an alleged impaired driver, who was arrested and charged early Saturday.

Just after 3 a.m., the officer was conducing traffic control on Highway 11 northbound near Line 1 in Oro-Medonte.

While the officer was in their cruiser, the accused proceeded through the road closure and collided with the police vehicle.

The officer was brought to hospital with minor injuries, while the 23-year-old driver from Mississauga was handed two impaired-related charges.

Her driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for 7 days.

The collision scene resulted in Highway 11 northbound being closed for numerous hours though the night as it was processed by members of the Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) Unit. It was reopened at aproximately 8:03 a.m. Saturday.
