Impaired Driving charges laid after two incidents in Midland

Southern Georgian Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid impaired driving-related charges following two incidents in Midland late Saturday night.

Just before midnight, officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Hugel Avenue and Queen Street. One of the drivers involved failed to remain at the scene.

Police were later able to locate the driver, who displayed signs of alcohol impairment. A roadside breath test resulted in a fail, and the individual was arrested. Subsequent breath testing confirmed the driver was “impaired by alcohol,” according to police.

As a result of the investigation, a 55-year-old Midland resident was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Fail to Stop – Stop Sign

Several hours later, officers responded to a disturbance on Hugel Avenue involving several intoxicated individuals. After clearing the scene, police remained in the area due to ongoing safety concerns.

Shortly afterward, officers observed a vehicle being driven at a high rate of speed with erratic movements. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver again showed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested, and breath testing later confirmed impairment by alcohol.

Charges laid against a 22-year-old Tiny Townshi resident include:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Driving a Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Liquor
  • Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Above Zero
