A major development in the case of Barrie Police Inspector Val Gates.
She was charged with discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act, first in December 2023, with another charge laid in June 2024.
"In accordance with the Police Services Act, an informal resolution has been reached in regard to the two counts of discreditable conduct against Inspector Val Gates," according to a post on the Barrie Police Service website attributed to Deputy Chief Robert Burke. "As a result, the notices of hearing have been withdrawn, and the matter is considered resolved."
The charges stemmed from an allegation of "an on-duty, internal incident," according to police.
A news release from Barrie police in December 2023 indicated the first charge was laid after an investigation by the OPP's Office of Professionalism, Respect, Inclusion and Leadership.
Gates has been with the Barrie Police Service for over 25 years.
Hearings in her case were set for later this year.
Details about the resolution have not been made public.
