An investigation Orillia OPP launched in May into an alleged garage door installation scam has resulted in a fraud charge against a 52-year-old Innisfil man.

Police say they began their investigation over claims a company accepted payment for the installation but did not do the job.

"The investigation revealed that the individual entered a contract and accepted a $10,000 deposit for goods and services in April 2022," OPP said in a news release. "The individual did not provide the service or material in question and eventually ceased all communication with the victim."

Police charged the accused with fraud over $5,000.

He has a court date late this month.
