With a significant rise in temperature and humidity forecast for the coming days, the Town of Innisfil is encouraging residents to take proactive measures to stay safe during the extreme heat.
“In a briefing with Environment Canada and Climate Change and the Provincial Emergency Operations Management Centre regarding the high temperatures and humidity coming our way, we wanted to advise residents on measures they should take,” said Brent Thomas, Fire Chief for Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services.
Staying Safe in the Heat
To help mitigate the risks of heat-related illness, residents are reminded to:
- Make sure air conditioners and fans are working properly
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids
- Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing, a hat, and sunscreen when outdoors
- Limit time spent outside during peak heat hours
- Check in on neighbours, friends, or family—especially seniors or those with health conditions
Where to Cool Down
The Town is also designating all Innisfil Public Library branches as cooling centres during their operating hours (Tuesday to Saturday). These spaces offer a safe, air-conditioned environment for residents needing relief from the heat. Full details can be found on the Innisfil Public Library website.
Extreme heat can lead to serious health risks, especially for young children, seniors, and people with chronic illnesses. In emergency situations, residents should not hesitate to call 911.
By preparing ahead and checking in on those who may need extra help, Innisfil residents can keep themselves and their community safe and cool this summer.
