Innisfil man handed five-year sentence after pleading guilty to possessing purple heroin

Heroin/fentanyl mix seized after driver fled traffic stop in 2018

A man charged in connection with the appearance of purple heroin in the region has been handed a five-year sentence after pleading guilty.

In early December of 2018, officers with the South Simcoe Police traffic unit were performing a RIDE spot check in Innisfil, claiming a foot chase began when a driver fled from the scene. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of drugs, including 96 grams of so-called purple heroin. The street drug is said to be a mix of heroin and fentanyl.

The South Simcoe Police report 31-year-old Jacob Buchannan entered a guilty plea on April 28th of this year and was then sentenced to five years in jail.
