K9 unit tracks teen driving suspect who fled from South Simcoe Police on Tuesday

A 16 year old youth is up on a number of charges

South Simcoe Police had to bring in the dog to track a suspect after a driver refused to stop for officers.

Around 7:30 Tuesday night, police said they received a driving complaint near Webster Boulevard and the 7th Line in Innisfil. An attempt was made to pull over the vehicle in question but it failed to stop and took off at a high rate of speed through a school zone and then a crowded neighbourhood.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle but witnesses were more than happy to point police in the right direction, to a spot where the vehicle was abandoned and a suspect was seen fleeing into a wooded area.

The K9 unit attended and was able to sniff out a suspect who was arrested without incident.

A 16-year-old from Innisfil was charged with several offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, race a motor vehicle and flight from police.
