She thought he was coming in for a little pre-Christmas cheer.
She got the 'cheer' part right.
It was for her.
Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard stopped by the 107.5 Kool Fm studio this morning to announce morning show co-host 'Charlie' is to be presented with a King Charles III's Coronation Medal.
"…for all of the work that you've done in the community…to help charitable causes, to promote things like the Women's and Children Shelter, Candlelighters Simcoe…plus your very public battle with cancer and the inspiration, the courage and the grace that you showed. Thank you on behalf of a grateful community."
Brassard quipped that he has spent more time with Charlie, aka Heather De Santia, attending events than with his wife.
The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada.
Charlie's reaction was typical, "I only ever get participation ribbons. My mom is going to pee her pants. She's from Britain. This is a big deal! "
Yes, it is.
Eligible candidates must meet the following national criteria:
- Have made a significant contribution to Canada or a particular province, territory, region, or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada, and
- Be alive on May 6, 2023. The award can be made posthumously, as long as the candidate was alive on that date.
Charlie is one of 20 Barrie-Innisfil residents who will receive the medal in a ceremony in February at Innisfil Town Hall.
From Kool Fm...
Charlie, a spirited and self-proclaimed “OK Mom,” has proudly called Simcoe County home for over 11 years. She’s deeply rooted in her community, lending her time to local causes and serving as an active advocate for breast cancer awareness. While raising her two kids to be thoughtful, caring individuals is her top priority, Charlie also embraces opportunities for self-improvement—and brings her honest, unfiltered personality along for the ride (she’ll admit, swearing comes naturally!).
Toronto-born and raised, Charlie knew from a young age that her passion lay in radio. As the student who was always told to “stop talking,” “mind her own business,” and “don’t touch that,” she’s now channelling that energy into her career.
.Charlie loves every minute of co-hosting Kool Mornings on 107.5 Kool FM alongside Dale Smith. To her, it’s not a job; it’s a calling.
Reflecting on advice she once received as a teenager—“you’re judged by the company you keep”—Charlie is genuinely grateful that you’re part of her world, sharing in the laughter, joy, and connection every morning.
