"The Last of Us" full trailer released: TV adaptation expected in 2023

Joel and Ellie are taking their journey to the small screen,

HBO has dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated series "The last of Us."

The adaptation of the post-apocalyptic PlayStation game stars "Game of Thrones" alum Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

While you can expect some differences from the video game, fans have been commenting on how true to the story the trailer appears, including the bleak landscape and overall tone.

The story is set twenty years after a virus ravages the world.

Joel is tasked with smuggling a young girl, Ellie, across the country, all while trying to avoid the virus responsible for humanity's destruction.

The trailer dropped yesterday, September 26, which has significant meaning in "The Last of Us" world. It's the same day the virus reached critical mass in the games.

The series was filmed in Alberta for nearly a year and is believed to be the most expensive TV production in Canadian history.

No official release date has been announced but expected to be out sometime in 2023.
