Leafs land forward Wayne Simmonds on first day of NHL free agency

"I'm born and raised in Scarborough, a proud Torontonian. I think this was a perfect fit."

Toronto native Wayne Simmonds turned down more money in Montreal to play for his hometown team. The 6’2, 185 lb winger has signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The deal comes with a full no-movement clause.

The Scarbrough-born Simmonds has played 909 NHL games over his 12 year career, racking up 251 goals and 499 points. Simmonds was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres this season from New Jersey, where he post just one assist in seven games before play was paused in March.
