Life-saving actions, exemplary service as Barrie Police host awards ceremony

News release - Barrie Police Service

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, the Barrie Police Service held its annual Awards Ceremony at the Mapleview Community Church.

Recognized at this event were members of the community and members of the Service, both uniform and civilian, for exemplary service, lifesaving and special recognition for acts that include developing partnerships, program creation and implementation and assistance to police.

The following members of the Barrie Police Service and our community received the following  awards:

    • Sergeant Bill Grant
    • Sergeant Rich Wentzell
    • Detective Constable Shawn Denomme
    • Detective Constable Rick Hueson
    • Constable Alan Claus
    • Special Constable Michael Morris
    • Special Constable Tammy St. Pierre
  • 30-year Civilian Service Pin
    • Debbie Gilmer
  • 20-year Civilian Service Pin
    • April Moriarty
    • Kelly Vanschubert
    • Theresa Young
  • Lifesaving Award
    • Constable Greg Johnston: For assisting in the saving of a male’s life before a hockey game in Collingwood.
    • Kim Cardoso and Breanna McLarty: For performing CPR on a customer who had collapsed.
    • County of Simcoe Paramedic Matt Tiberi: For saving the life of a male in distress.
  • Formal Commendation
    • Detective Constable Kris Nicholson and Detective Constable Jamie Saunders: For their investigation that resulted in the arrest of a male as part of a Grandparent Scam fraud.
    • Detective Constable Deb Howe: For her dedication and compassion in serving as a Victim Liaison Officer for a tragic motor vehicle collision.
  • Chief of Police Award
    • Detective Constable Petr Pospisil: For his commitment to developing partnerships, especially with the Indigenous community.
    • Madison Charman & Special Constable Shannon Calladine: For their efforts in developing and implementing the Inside Out program.
  • Civilian Recognition Award
    • Special Constable Shannon Calladine: For her commitment to supporting and strengthening community partnerships.
  • Citizen Award
    • Kimberly Sheppard: For spotting a lost child and staying with them while waiting for police to arrive.

A special thank you to the family members in attendance, local dignitaries who provided inspiring comments and to the members of the Barrie Police Services Board that were able to join us for this incredible night of recognition and appreciation of our community and those celebrating milestones of exemplary police service.
