You'll be hard-pressed to find the traditional Life Savers story book.fun book in your stocking this year, as the company says they discontinued them for the 2023 season.

A longstanding Christmas tradition has been around since 1935 and features several candy rolls in various flavours.

However, that tradition now needs a replacement, as Mars Canada told CBC News that the special edition packaging will no longer be around.

"We discontinued the Life Saver Fun Books in 2023," said their external communications and affairs director. The hard candy will be replaced with M&M's.

In the past few years, people have noticed the storybooks' shrinking from 12 rolls to 6 and not nearly the number of flavours there used to be.

Mel Campbell, a fan of the candy books, told CBC her dad has a 40-year tradition of putting the books in her and her sister's stockings.

"It used to be a big thing with my sister and I after we opened our gifts, we'd sit and open our Life Saver books, and would trade and barter for the kind that we liked."

Her dad continued that tradition with his grandkids, but the books were impossible to find this year, at least for a decent price.

The candy is listed on Amazon at the not-so-sweet Prince of 2 for $50.

Campbell's father says the price is crazy, and he will probably buy a bunch of life-saving rolls to put in the bottom of the stocking.
