News release - City of Barrie
The City of Barrie is inviting local performers as well as arts and culture organizations to apply to participate in this year’s Culture Days programming and kick-off event at Meridian Place.
Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture taking place this year from September 22 through October 15, 2023. Culture Days programs inspire public participation in arts and culture through three weeks of free events, performances and activities offered in person, online and through self-guided exploration.
On Saturday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the City of Barrie will kick off Culture Days at Meridian Place in downtown Barrie with a diverse mix of arts and culture performances, activities, and organizations. Local performers and arts and culture organizations are invited to apply to be part of this kickoff event. Selected performers may be entitled to receive a $250 honorarium, while selected arts and culture organizations will be provided the opportunity to engage with the public.
On September 30, Culture Days will create space exclusively for events organized to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, including those sharing First Nations, Métis, and/or Inuit experiences and perspectives celebrating the creative and cultural expressions of Indigenous people and communities.
The City is also inviting individuals, organizations and businesses to submit proposals for activities or events to help celebrate Culture Days across Barrie. The format can be in-person, online (live or pre-recorded), or self-guided. Disciplines can include visual arts, dance, theatre, music, history and heritage, architecture and design, culinary arts, craft or storytelling.
Submissions will be accepted until Wednesday, July 26, at 4:30 p.m.
