Man arrested with ammunition and knife in Orillia

Police say taser was deployed when the suspect brandished an edged weapon

OPP in Orillia responded to an industrial area near West and Queen Streets around two Thursday morning after receiving reports of a man who claimed to have a gun.

The man was located in a residential area when police arrived, and he fled on a foot. When officers caught up to him, they say the man brandished an edged weapon. A taser was deployed, but the guy managed to make another run for it. He was finally nabbed in a nearby yard and arrested.

Police say he was found in possession of a knife and ammunition.

A 33-year-old Orillia man has been charged with:

  • Assault police -weapon
  • Escape lawful custody
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order
  • Trespass at night
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

 The accused was held for a bail hearing on Thursday in Barrie.
