Man Charged With Drunk Driving After Calls from Concerned Parents

Man Accused of Stopping to Talk Hockey With Children

Calls about a suspicious man speaking with children has ended with drunk driving charges.

Barrie Police say they received a series of calls from concerned residents, after a man was spotted talking to kids and giving them money. It’s alleged the man stopped on Spencer Avenue to interact with some kids playing road hockey, with claims he took a shot on net and then tried to give the kids cash. The kids were able to get a licence plate number to their parents afterwards, who in turn called police. Two similar calls to police were made shortly after, with similar concerns over a suspicious individual.

A vehicle was stopped about a half hour later on Big Bay Point at Leggot Ave, where the 26-year-old man behind the wheel was arrested. Police say he was driving under the influence, and now faces an early May court date.
