A man has died after being removed from the water in Lake Simcoe early Saturday morning.

Barrie Police spokesperson Peter Leon can confirm that Barrie Police were called to the Government Dock area in Barrie shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday for a report of an adult male who was in the icy waters. Barrie Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics also responded to the scene, where the man was located and removed from the lake.

Lifesaving efforts were initiated upon the discovery of the man and he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased after revival attempts were unsuccessful.

The police investigation is ongoing and further details will be shared only as the investigation permits. Anyone with video from the area of Lakeshore Dr. & Bayfield St. in Barrie prior to 2 a.m. Saturday is asked to call local police.

This incident comes as local fire and police services continue to urge residents to stay off the water as the temperatures mild and surface ice continues to melt. Three people were rescued from the water recently this winter after their off-road vehicle went through the ice on Lake Simcoe. All three survived the incident.

Local authorities continue to urge people to avoid venturing out onto local waterways.
