Man succumbs to injuries sustained during Lindsay-area shoot-out with police that claimed toddler’s life

Special Investigations Unit continues to probe circumstances surrounding shooting

A man has succumbed to injuries sustained in a shoot-out with police, a week following the incident that claimed the life of his one-year-old son.

The Special Investigations Unit confirmed the 33-year-old man died in Toronto hospital Wednesday evening. He was injured during an incident on November 26 that not only saw a one-year-old boy killed by gunfire, but also sent an OPP officer to hospital.

Police were contacted last Thursday with reports of an armed kidnapping in the Kawartha Lakes area. During the pursuit of a suspect, a collision between pickup truck and OPP cruiser occured, wherein an officer was struck.

Shortly afterwards, three officers arrived on scene and the SIU reports shots were fired. A one-year-old boy in the pickup was struck by a bullet, while the SIU has not confirmed who fired the fatal shot. The man was also injured and was rushed to hosptial. He died of his injuries shortly after 8:30 Wednesday evening.

The Special Investigations Unit continues to probe this incident.
