Maple Leafs a win away from advancing to second round of NHL playoffs
The Maple Leafs scored three times in the second period and added an empty net goal in the third to beat the Canadiens 4-0 Tuesday night.
William Nylander opened the scoring with his fourth goal in as many games. Jason Spezza, Joe Thornton and Alex Galchenyuk rounded out the scoring. Galchenyuk also had two assists on the night.
Jack Campbell, with another solid effort in net, kicked out 32 shots for his first playoff shutout.
“Scoring, defending, checking, all the way through the lineup, the guys dug down,” said Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. “A lot of great efforts.”
The Leafs first chance to end the series comes Thursday night in Toronto.
