Mapleview Drive reopening Friday evening after construction closed it for months

Closure due to installation of new infrastructure for an expanded south end

Mapleview Drive will open, just over a month later than first thought, as of 6 p.m. Friday.

The south Barrie thoroughfare was closed from Yonge St. to Royal Jubilee Dr. in early March to install a large water main, sanitary sewer, and road crossing in the area. It was scheduled to reopen on May 15, but the closure was extended as frozen ground and excess groundwater delayed the project.

The roadway is open to traffic as of Friday evening.

The project is a continuation of work started in the fall of 2019; extensive infrastructure work is being done in the city’s south end to support Barrie’s expansion into the annexed lands.
