It was all smiles and laughter at this year's Holiday With A Hero where our community's heroes including firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and soldiers, matched up with some of the most deserving kids. When you see the kid's faces light up as they meet the men and women in uniform, you instantly recognize how much this event means to them.
After pairing up, the groups went Christmas shopping for their families with only one extra rule; they also had to buy at least one present for themselves. There was also hot chocolate and delicious gingerbread cookies for everyone to enjoy and after they had finished their shopping they could have some fun colouring with their big hero as well.
Once all the shopping had wrapped up, it was time to head over to the YMCA to literally wrap up (the presents). The kids were given a ride in a military bus from Base Borden in the middle of a procession of vehicles that included cop cars, ambulances, and even a military APC.
The kids arrived at the YMCA where they enjoyed activities like face-painting, cookie decorating, a photo booth, and of course, wrapping up all their gifts. There was also a delicious breakfast of eggs, pancakes, and bacon.
The men and women who put on these different uniforms every day once again proved that they aren't just heroes from 9-5, it's a full-time gig.
