It's the first Barbie doll representing a person with Down syndrome.

Mattel revealed the doll on Tuesday, which was made in partnership with the National Down Syndrome Society.

In a message on social media, the company said, "NDSS's guidance and real-world experiences informed the design process from start to finish, including the dolls sculpt, clothing, accessories and packaging."

The company says the doll's face is rounder; she has almond-shaped eyes, smaller ears and a flat nasal bridge. She even has a single line across her palms, a characteristic often associated with those with Down syndrome.

So much detail and meaning were put into the design, including her clothes.

Many children with Downs wear foot orthotics, so this Barbie comes with her own pair.

Her yellow and blue butterfly dress represents Down syndrome awareness.

And the most meaningful piece is her necklace. Mattel says the three chevrons on the jewelry represent how people with Down syndrome have three copies of their 21st chromosome.

The newest doll is part of the Mattels fashionista line and will be at stores across Canada.
