The Town of Midland is rolling out private security patrols to help tackle vandalism, mischief and other unlawful activity in public spaces.

The Town has reached an agreement for a pilot program that will see overnight security patrol Little Lake Park, along with a visible security presence in the downtown core.

Council approved the initiative in June.

The Town says the private security team will patrol designated areas, document incidents, and notify the proper authorities when needed. Officials say the program is designed to work alongside police and emergency services, not to replace them.

The move comes as Midland continues to see repeated acts of vandalism and damage to public property that have disrupted parks and other community spaces, which the Town says is costing taxpayers money and taking staff away from other priorities.

Town officials believe investing in prevention now could reduce repair bills and better protect municipal property in the long run.

Staff will monitor the pilot program and report back to council with findings and recommendations.
